Let's talk about your future.

Updated: Sep 2, 2021

It's really common in an English test for the examiner to ask you questions about the future. Examples might be ...

  • What is a place you'd like to visit?

  • What can you see yourself doing in 5 years' time?

  • What type of job do you want?

  • Is there anything you'd like to change about yourself?

  • What will you do if ....?

  • What would you do if ....?

So you need to become confident in talking about your future plans. And you need to use a variety of grammar to talk about the future in English!

Look at these types of future meaning.

  1. prediction / forecast with evidence

  2. timetabled event or arrangement

  3. plan or intention

  4. timetabled event

  5. personal prediction (perhaps without evidence)

  6. promise

  7. a specific time in the future, an action in progress

  8. a specific time in the future

  9. an obligation

  10. an imminent action (very soon or immediate)

  11. projecting ourselves into the future and looking back at a completed action
