How to describe 3 pie charts and pass IELTS

You can do it!

Yes you can. Follow the simple steps on the right.

  1. Look at the titles - over 20 years

  2. Count the number of categories (5 colours)

  3. Look at the rough proportions - a half / a third / a quarter

  4. Find the key noun in the instruction - annual spending

  5. Paraphrase this noun phrase - how much is spent every year / the annual spending

  6. Check other WH- words e.g. where - the UK

  7. Write the overview paragraph thinking about who/what/where/when/how much or many

  8. Write the second paragraph focusing on the MOST SIGNIFICANT changes.

  9. Write the third paragraph focusing on OTHER changes - maybe in more detail.

  10. Write a final paragraph to wrap up (optional)
