How to describe 4 pie charts !

Keep calm! Look for the most significant changes - you cannot describe or report everything. Read through the example here and consult the graphs to see if you can fill in the missing words. Watch the video lesson to check your answer. Don't worry, everything is FREE. I'm here to help you get your highest score.

1. Write an overview paragraph - use the WH- question words to help you focus.

The four pie charts provide information about ________ in the age make-up of the population in two countries - Yemen and Italy. The data is given for the year 2000 and __ ___________ is shown also for 50 years later. The ages are organised into three groups - children up to the age of 14, adults up to the age of 59, and older people 60 years old and above.

2. Find the MOST OBVIOUS differences and similarities between the 4 charts. Write about these first - in general.

In general, there are several clear changes predicted. The population in Yemen appears to be getting ______ with the middle age group occupying ____ _________ proportion in 2050. Similarly, the population in Italy is likely to get older as well. The largest change is expected in Italy where the oldest age group ____ ________ by as much as 18 percent.

3. Find the RELEVANT DETAIL to write about in the final paragraph

To be more ________, in 2000 half of the population in Yemen were children up to the age of 14. However, by 2050, this age group will have decreased, only accounting for 37 percent. The middle age group which consists of adults from 15 to 59, will have __________ in proportion, reaching 57 percent of the whole population. In slight contrast, it is __________ that Italy's older population will become older with people over the age of 59 reaching well over a third. Meanwhile, ____ ___________ of children and adults in Italy will decline, with the adult age group probably reaching 46.2 percent, down from 61.6 percent 50 years earlier.

Do not write a conclusion - this is not an essay!
